In the seasonal colours of the SS12, Melbourne’s GPO was converted into a colourful origami oasis.

Oversized paper desert scenes featuring 3D cacti formed the landscape while high above digitally printed silk scarves floated in the air. Amongst this summer setting, triangular vitrines showcased MGPO’s retailers latest collections.

During winter The inspiration for this installation came from the creative mother daughter team of Yahua Huang and Janine Zhengs. Their Camberwell market trestle held palm scale unique hand crafted 3d origami ornaments. The Gloss Creative team were given a master class in triangle folding with Yahua and Janine. The technique of slotting these triangles together formed the cacti and angled blooms.

A few facts about the project: 8000 sheets of paper were digitally printed in selected colours that reflected a desert-scape and a summer palette in a variety of hues, 10 Kilograms of hot glue was used, 15 pairs of hands individually folded each triangle and sculpted them into cactus forms over 5 days and 600 hours.
